I reviewed this map after reading of Bob West's background and his explanation. For the Senate districts I know in Northern Virginia, I think it makes some sense. (I have not reviewed the impact on other parts of the state, other than his own descriptions.) It may be that residents should really loolk to the boundaries of House of Delegate districts for preserving and lifting up their communities of interest because those are smaller than the Senate districts, and thus easier to articulate. Perhaps one of these citizen maps will provide a good alternative that can break the deadlock among the partisan map drawers doing the bidding of their legal counsels.

For Arlington County, District 31 is compact. I would suggest moving Nauck community into this district because it is part of the Columbia Pike community - it's a historically black community in Arlington. Columbia Forest and Claremont should probably be included in 31 as well. Suggest that the southeastern section (adjoining National Airport) could be included in Alexandria City's district 30. They share a transportation corridor along Rt 1 / 110 (Crystal City, Pentagon City)

The city of Radford is a university community that has more in common with Blacksburg and Montgomery County than with Pulaski County and the more rural counties to the west. It would be better to put Radford in district 19 and if necessary move rural Craig County into another adjacent district.
